Ayahuascas Therapeutic Potential w/ Giordano Rossi PhD

We are thrilled to announce an upcoming online lecture with the Brazilian ayahuasca-researcher Giordano Rossi! In his presentation, he will be discussing the potential therapeutic effects of ayahuasca and some results of his ongoing trial- followed by a short Q&A.

Giordano got his bachelor’s degree in biology and went on to research mental health in 2017. He has published scientific papers regarding hallucinogens and cannabinoids as possible therapeutic tools to treat mental disorders, analytical chemistry, and psychopharmacology. The trial for his Master’s involved assessing possible interactions between cannabidiol and ayahuasca in healthy volunteers. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate from the University of São Paulo in Brazil, doing a six-month exchange program at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. The clinical trial for his Ph.D. in Brazil aims to evaluate and compare the therapeutic effects of four doses of ayahuasca or oral esketamine for the treatment of depression and anxiety.

During his visit to Maastricht University, he is working in the Psychopharmacology Department with observational studies on ayahuasca users, researching the possible effects of this substance on emotion regulation, cognition, and sleep quality. More generally, he is interested in better understanding and explaining how hallucinogens act from a pharmacological and psychological point of view and further elucidating other possible therapeutic uses these drugs may have.
